Meditations

Foundations of Awareness:

Attending to the breath and body

The breath is the gateway to the body. Settling the body and mind to observe it with some degree of equanimity is the starting point for any contemplative practice, whether you’re an expert or beginner.

Tuning into the body is, on its own, a deeply calming and grounding practice. But it is also the foundation of insight and intuition, as the body is the medium through which many of the subtle somatic signals can be felt.

Heart-Root Grounding Meditation

It’s very difficult to access embodied knowing when we are stuck in our heads, and in fact, can feel destabilizing or confusing if we are not rooted in our bodies first.

The heart-root grounding meditation is powerful exercise to ground our senses in our bodies and in the Earth, and can help settle the nervous system and the mind in general.

If you’re a person who is prone to anxiety and mind wandering, this can be a restorative daily practice, even if done only for a few minutes at a time.

If you’re looking to access your intuition or any form of extra-cognitive knowing, a strong grounding practice like this will help prepare your internal environment to receive and discern subtle signals.

Moonlight Shroud Meditation

A good friend of mine was not sleeping well. She was having recurring bad dreams, memories and energies from her past and from her family’s deeper past were continually haunting her.

In a meditation, I saw this image of the moon beaming down and covering her with a beautiful shroud of white and blue light, protecting her from any invasive energies. I quickly sketched the image and then recorded the meditation above, with instructions for her to try before going to sleep.

The disturbing dreams stopped and did not return as long as she did this meditation before bed. I now use this meditation myself anytime protection and peace are called for in given space. Give it a try yourself, and let me know if it helps.
